unnecessary

Just yesterday I saw the breaking news about how the VT Killer had mailed NBC News a package.

Certainly I was curious of the contents. I was also happy that they turned it over to the FBI...but apparently they made a copy for themselves first.

I figured they would wait a few weeks and then have a 'special' on TV at night that would show some of the stuff and stretch the content over several hours so they could sell BoTox Injections, Viagra and Toilet Paper. I knew that greed would eventually break them, they would eventually show the goods.

As little faith as I have in these people, even I was surprised that they would release this killers rants and posed photos immediatley and everywhere without warning. There's a significant amount of people out there hurting, and I'm sure many of them didnt want to be taunted by this freak. I mean, none of these kids have even been buried yet.

The material should have been segregated to a specific time when people could be aware of what they were about to see.

NBC really played into Cho's hands. He orchestrated a photo shoot and chose the pictures of himself that he wanted and NBC covered the globe with it. He gave them a script of his views and ideas and they gave him a grandstand.

Every TV personality is tripping over themselves to be filming from that campus. They want some poor kid who's life just fell apart to break down on camera and say "there there, there there" as comfort. They want to come accross as infomative, compassionate and understanding...but this pretty much just proved their true motives.

Greed, even in the face of such horror.

Nice work, assholes.

When I saw this 'story' on the news I wanted to throw things at the TV. (not good since I was at the gym and it wasn't my TV). What pissed me off the worse was the announcer's comment at then end of it all "It must really be hard for the family's to see this". Yah think!?

Here's the thing, if we didn't want to see it, they wouldn't cover it.

Don't blame the news media for our sick fascination with this stuff.

The Washington Post did a profile of the victims a day or two after the event. On quite a number of them, the paper said, "the victim's family has refused to be interviewed for this profile." Duh! Leave them the hell alone, they just lost a child or brother or sister. Crass doesn't come close our National Enquirer/Star news culture.

szg,
There's plenty of things that I'm curious about, but I realize would not be appropriate for mass consumption.

While it's normal to wonder about what would motivate someone to do this, it is CLEARLY against good sense to grandstand his 'press release' at the expense of so many people. I didnt need to know what was in the package THAT badly.

The two kids from Columine made a video too, and it was kept under wraps for years.

I agree wholeheartedly.

I would like them to know that I immediately changed the channel. Once I saw it on the other channels, I turned off the television and DH and I went out to breakfast instead.

I WILL NOT watch them give a murderer that much face time.

I turned off the 9/11 stuff after the 14th iteration of the same crap. Once any news station starts talking to hear their own voice and bringing out 'experts' on what 'may' have happened, I am gone. I will check back on the net later.
(I did the same with the Imus fiasco. Once I heard old Sharpie/Jackson going at it after seeing what they had done in the past, I was gone. As it continues for weeks I got alot done around the house.)

Sometimes the media is it's own worst enemy.

Try being from Northern VA and watching this crap. Our local anchors had kids on the phone on MONDAY....and were asking the most inane questions that I started to throw crap at the tv.

[to a freshman at 1 pm] "Do you think you will come back next year?'

[to a senior at 3 pm] "Does graduation mean anything at this point and how to you feel about your tainted campus?"

arghhhhhhhhhh.

Funny. This is the first internet access I have had in over a week, but I was shocked that you are the only one of my blog list that even mentioned this. [My Canadian friends excepted]

Is it me - or are we no innured to this that it doesn't effect people and they don't need to write about it? or just mention it.

I don't know.

Hugs to you. And no DK you can't post a response to me...lol. thanks

Leonesse,
I'm with you. Once they start to go into heavy repeat, it's best to just turn it off for a week and check back in days later once the investigation has progressed further.

SkippyMom,
That must be brutal coverage. I think the lack of blog coverage has to do with disgust/helplessness of the situation. It is still far to big and painful for me to completely acknowledge. There wasnt much I could say about the event that every person on the planet doesnt agree with.
